Emily said she had read "The Catcher in the Rye" but didn't like *her* writing much. I responded that that J.D. Salinger is a man. I found a copy in amongst the books, to prove it, but suddenly the title changed: it was a collection of short stories that I hadn't read yet, by Salinger. And then the cover changed again, and it wasn't Salinger at all.
